When was interview with the vampire released

At first, Louis rebels against hurting humans, drinking animal blood instead. He finally succumbs and kills his faithful house slave Yvette. Guilt ridden, he tries to kill himself by setting fire to his house; but Lestat rescues him and they flee. Wandering the streets of New Orleans, amidst an outbreak of plague, Louis finds a sick little child in a house with her dead mother.

Starving for human blood, he bites the girl whom Lestat later makes into a vampire "daughter" who is then to be known as Claudia, to discourage Louis from leaving him. Lestat teaches Claudia to live as a vampire and prey on humans. As thirty years pass, Claudia becomes a sadistic killer and closely bonded to Louis and Lestat. But, when she realizes she will never grow up, she is furious with Lestat. She tricks him into drinking the blood of twin boys she killed by overdosing them with laudanum, knowing that dead blood is fatal to vampires.

This weakens him, and she slits his throat. Claudia and Louis dump Lestat's body in a swamp; but he returns, having drained the blood of swamp creatures to survive.

Lestat attacks them, but Louis sets him on fire and is able to flee to Paris with Claudia. In , Louis and Claudia live in harmony in Paris, but Louis is still bothered by the question of how vampires came to be and if there are any others.

One night, Louis encounter vampires Santiago and Armand. Louis makes inquiries about vampires and their origins, of which Armand is mostly evasive in his answers. Santiago, having read Louis' thoughts about Lestat, warns them that the only crime a vampire can commit is killing another vampire.

Claudia accuses Louis of wanting to leave her and join Armand. She demands he makes a human woman, Madeleine , into a vampire to be her new protector, and he reluctantly complies. But doing this act, Louis feels he has sacrificed the last of his humanity. As punishment for Lestat's murder, the Parisian vampires abduct all three; separating Louis from Claudia and Madeleine by imprisoning him in a sealable metal coffin.

When freed by Armand the next night, he learns Claudia and Madeleine have been turned to ash by the sun, having been trapped in an airshaft by the coven. He returns to the Theatre and avenges Claudia and Madeleine by burning the vampires in their theatre as they sleep and bisecting Santiago with a scythe. In San Francisco, a vampire named Louis tells his year-long life story to an interviewer Daniel Molloy , although only referred to as "the boy" in the novel. In , Louis was a young plantation owner living south of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Distraught and suicidal over the death of his brother Paul his wife and daughter in the movie , which he blames himself for, Louis is approached by a vampire named Lestat, who desires his plantation. Lestat turns Louis into a vampire although initially Louis merely begs to be killed and the two become immortal companions. Lestat spends some time feeding off the local plantation slaves, while Louis feeds from animals; Louis finds it impossible to disconnect himself from his mortal morals and engage in malicious murder.

Louis and Lestat are forced to leave when Louis' slaves begin to fear the monsters with which they live and instigate an uprising. Louis sets his own plantation aflame; he and Lestat exterminate the plantation slaves to keep word from spreading about vampires living in Louisiana. Louis bends under Lestat's influence and begins feeding from humans, slowly coming to terms with his 'killer' nature while also becoming increasingly repulsed by what he perceives as Lestat's total lack of compassion for the humans he preys upon.

Escaping to New Orleans proper, Louis feeds off a plague-ridden young girl one night, whom he finds next to the corpse of her mother. As the girl reaches the point of death, Lestat then turns her into a vampire "daughter" for them, naming her " Claudia " as her real name is never revealed. Louis is horrified that Lestat has turned a child into a vampire, but instantly falls in love with Claudia and cares for her tenderly and dotingly. She takes to killing easily, but Claudia begins to hate Lestat as she realizes she can never grow up; although her mind matures into an intelligent, assertive and seductive woman, her body remains that of a 6-year-old.

After 65 years of living together, Claudia hatches a plot to dispose of Lestat by poisoning him and cutting his throat. Claudia and Louis then dump his body into a nearby swamp. After realizing that they seem to now be the only vampires living in America, Claudia desires to travel to Europe with Louis and seek out "Old World" vampires. As Louis and Claudia prepare to flee to Europe, Lestat appears, having survived and recovered from Claudia's attack, and attacks them in turn.

Louis sets fire to their home and barely escapes with Claudia, leaving a furious Lestat to be consumed by the flames. Arriving in Europe, Louis and Claudia seek out more of their kind.
